History In the late 1990s, the founders behind the monthly magazine, Business Opportunities, realised that the rising popularity of the internet and digital resources were affecting its business. They also knew that face-to-face networking was a great way to build business contacts, especially for entrepreneurs and small business owners. This combination of factors was the inspiration for The Business Show. In 2000, the first event took place in Wembley with 150 exhibitors. The only problem was that very few visitors turned up, leading to staff running around market stalls in the local area to drum up business. Undeterred, the show returned for a second year in 2001 and managed to attract 1,000 visitors. From here, it grew year-on-year. After a spell of running the show at the Birmingham NEC in tandem with Wembley, the decision was taken in 2010, to move to two locations in the capital – Olympia and ExCeL London. Since these early beginnings, the show has played host to memorable expert speakers – from Alan Sugar, Karen Brady, Joe Foster, the founder of Rebook, Dragon’s Den’s, Touker Suleyman and Steven Bartlett to Love Island star Montana Brown and TOWIE star, Lauren Pope to name but a few.
