With its home base at London Heathrow, last year British Airways flew to more than 200 destinations in more than 80 different countries. In 2019, the airline carried more than 46 million customers. Product British Airways operates a range of flights to UK domestic, short-haul and long-haul destinations. It offers a choice of travel classes, with something for every taste and budget, from First, Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller on long-haul routes, to Club Europe and Euro Traveller, on short-haul routes. Achievements During the global pandemic the airline did all it could to support the fight against Covid-19, operating more than 100 repatriation flights to bring more than 40,000 UK customers back home. In addition, a taskforce of volunteer British Airways staff helped out in communities across the country. The airline is continuing to fly vital PPE and medical supplies to the UK and temporarily converted two Boeing 777 passenger jets into dedicated cargo aircraft to enable the airline to carry as many supplies as possible. Throughout 2020 the airline expects to take delivery of several new aircraft, including the Airbus A321neo, Airbus A320neo, Airbus A350-1000, Boeing 787-10 and Boeing 777-300ER. British Airways is also fitting out some of its long-haul aircraft with new interiors and most will include its new business class seat the Club Suite. The Boeing 777-300ERs will be delivered fitted with the airline’s improved First seat with a sliding door. All short-haul aircraft are to be fitted with wifi and more than 60 of British Airways’ long-haul aircraft are now fitted with full streaming capability, high-speed wifi. The system will be installed in 90% of long-haul aircraft by the end of 2021. In 2020 British Airways expanded its route network with the launch of new routes to Dalaman, Bodrum, Lahore, Pristina and Newquay. Recent Developments British Airways always puts the safety and security of its customers and staff first and, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the airline has been making changes to increase contactless interactions, while still delivering a great customer experience. The airline has introduced a new premium contactless lounge experience at London Heathrow. Customers can choose to use self- scan machines to gain entry to some lounges. It has also launched ‘Your Menu’. Customers simply scan a QR code to order food and drink from the comfort of their seat and have it delivered directly to their table. The airline has also moved its award-winning on- board magazine, High Life, online. The monthly content packed magazine will now be available digitally before, during and after a flight. High Life will continue to include travel inspiration articles and is downloadable, free of charge, in-flight using the on-board wifi. As British Airways continues to update its fleet with more modern, fuel-efficient and quieter aircraft, 2020 saw the emotional retirement British Airways donated more than 200,000 essential items to charities and communities across the UK in the fight against Covid-19 DID YOU KNOW?
