Since May 2018, Signify has become the new company name for Philips Lighting. Philips, the world’s most loved lighting brand, continues under the stewardship of Signify, which embodies the lighting evolution from conventional to LED and continues to develop it further. More than just lighting up, Signify transforms lighting into a mode of communications where lighting and its data convey meaning in the Internet of Things (IoT), where an ecosystem of smart devices, processes and people interact with one another. Lighting enables meaningful interactions with useful and actionable insights gleaned from the analytics of data. Signify is a global company with a presence in over 70 countries. In 2019, Signify celebrated its 50th year in Singapore. To stay ahead, Signify invests close to 5% of its revenue in R&D, with emphasis on sustainable and connected LED lighting. Besides home lighting, Signify has a solid track record in lighting up the interiors and facades of iconic landmarks, commercial buildings and public spaces worldwide. These include bridges, skyscrapers, airports, stadiums, museums and galleries, retail outlets and malls, hotels, offices, warehouses and even roads and tunnels to keep drivers and passengers safe. Signify proudly markets the best lighting brands in the world. Color Kinetics is our global brand in dynamic architectural lighting systems, setting creative minds free to explore the unique power of light. Modular Lighting Instruments is renowned for its outspoken, bold, and prize- winning designs. Signify has also embarked on the Brighter Lives, Better World program since 2016. ACHIEVEMENTS With sustainability at the core of its business, Signify announced in 2021 that it has successfully completed its Brighter Lives, Better World 2020 sustainability program, outperforming most of its commitments. Signify is 100% carbon neutral in operations, use 100% renewable electricity and 84% of revenues from a portfolio of sustainable products, systems and services. In 2021, Signify also expands its offering for smart cities by acquiring Telensa, an expert in wireless monitoring and control systems for smart cities to grow Signify’s professional systems and services. Signify had also purchased Cooper Lighting Solutions in 2020, to drive innovation and advance connected lighting and systems. Signify has been helping to keep people safe in a world adjusting to a new normal, where organisations seek ways to continue operations in a safe environment. By increasing its UV-C lighting production capacity and expanding its UV-C product portfolio, Signify leverages more than 35 years of expertise in UV-C lighting to address the global need for the disinfection of air, surfaces and objects. Validated in a laboratory test by Boston University, Signify’s UV-C light sources has been proven to inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19 in a matter of seconds. In rooms where people are present, upper air UV-C disinfection luminaires can be installed to disinfect air continuously. Because of natural or mechanical ventilation in the room, the contaminated room air will pass through the UV-C zone and thus will be disinfected. In 2018, Philips was recognised by Superbrands as Singapore’s favourite lighting brand among consumers. These attest to the R&D investment Signify has made toward continuous innovation. Philips Hue is a personal intelligent lighting system that enables you to control your energy-efficient LED lights that come in a wide range of smart light bulbs, lamps, fixtures and accessories with the Philips Hue app. The fourth generation of the Philips Hue app was launched in 2021 and has been rebuilt from the ground up. The new technologies have improved app performance both in overall function and communication with the smart lighting system while also delivering an intuitive and enhanced user experience. The Philips Hue product range now features Bluetooth capability, making it easy to install and enjoy, even for customers who are new to the Philips Hue system and do not (yet) own a Hue Bridge. Signify has launched its BLBW 2025 program, with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its strategic compass and set even more ambitious commitments.
